Not Sure Where to Start? A Simple Way to Choose Your First Session
Meditation, yoga, sound bath, breathwork: four different starting points. A quick way to figure out which one actually...

Both are commonly recommended for stress, which makes picking a starting point harder than it should be. They’re not interchangeable, and the right one depends less on which is “better” and more on what your body and mind currently need.
| Criteria | Yoga | Meditation |
|---|---|---|
| Involves | Physical movement + breath | Stillness + focused attention |
| Best fit if | Stress shows up as physical tension or restlessness | Stress shows up as a racing, overactive mind |
| Barrier to entry | Requires some physical engagement | Requires sitting with discomfort/wandering thoughts |
| At Arna | Kundalini, Hatha, Multi-Style | Mindfulness Meditation |
Ask: does my stress feel more like tension I need to move out of my body, or thoughts I can’t quiet down? The first points toward yoga (particularly a more dynamic style like Kundalini); the second points toward meditation.
Many practices, Kundalini Yoga especially, already combine movement with breath-focused stillness, part of why it’s often recommended as a middle ground for people unsure which category they fall into. There’s also no rule against starting with one and adding the other later.
The Yoga overview and Mindfulness Meditation pages each go into more detail, or get in touch and describe what you’re dealing with; that’s usually faster than guessing.
